Kitchen Sinks & Faucets Get Clean-Lined, Personalized Style

It's not just the cook who's cleaning up in the kitchen - rather, simple lines and streamlined designs are creating cleaner looks throughout the kitchen, and particularly at the water center. But while the look may be getting simpler, that doesn't mean personalized style isn't important. In fact, personalization seems to be increasingly important for kitchen sinks and faucets, with sink and bowl shape, size, color, material, reach and accessories all offering a greater array of customizable options to meet consumer demand. Commercial styling and sustainability remain top trends, while Universal Design is also playing a role in faucet design.

Below are some of the hottest trends in kitchen sinks and faucets:
  • The commercial look continues to influence kitchen sink and faucet trends, with stainless steel remaining a top seller. Stainless steel has the added benefit of being 100% recyclable, making it a true green product.
  • While cleaner, more streamlined looks are definitely in vogue, the sink area is seeing more personalization in terms of sink shape and size, faucet design and accessories. To that end, total coordination is out, while mix-and-match finishes are increasingly being used as a way to make an eclectic design statement.
  • While stainless is always hot, composite materials for sinks are also gaining ground for their durability, cleanability and color options. Granite, quartz, fireclay and hammered copper are popular alternatives to stainless steel.
  • When it comes to faucet finishes, chrome (polished and brush) remains ubiquitous, but satin or brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze and stainless steel are also in high demand. Fingerprint-resistant finishes seem to be gaining ground as well, dovetailing with the trend toward cleaner lines and simple, easy-care designs.
  • Pull-out or pull-down faucets are a must-have in the kitchen, while accessories such as water filtration systems, instant hot water dispensers, bottom grids, custom cutting boards and designer soap dispensers help to create a more personalized and functional water center.
  • As Baby Boomers continue to age, demand for easy-grasp lever faucets is expected to grow, with a greater variety of choices designed for use by homeowners of all ages and abilities.
